Youniq was started as a side-line business to generate an extra income in addition to my full-time employment, but soon Youniq became part of our daily lives.
Youniq gifts & Accessories was initially started by my partner and traded as Youniq Jewellery. Our range consisted of laser cut earrings and Brooches. We attended local markets and small festivals with the laser cut range, but soon realised that we were only catering for a specific market and needed to expand our product range to cater for a larger variety of clients.
In March 2016 we “expanded” our business with a variety of products, in April 2016 we took a trip to Cape Town to meet with suppliers and to build up contacts. We stayed in Cape Town for a week with a budget of a mere R10 000 to buy stock, eat and pay for petrol & accommodation. Our first market after our trip was a huge success and we managed to sell the majority of the stock purchased.
We soon started expanding more by adding our Youniq wraps, teacher bags, leather shoes etc.
Youniq Gifts & Accessories was registered as a business in September 2017 after which we’ve opted to start our online store and employ more people to assist us with our dream of owning our own business.
Youniq took a lot of hard work, late nights, a lot of fights and arguments, blood, sweat and tears, but seeing our brand and name evolve makes everything worthwhile.
